AP Art History (Course ID: 6428)
Grade Level: 9-12
Prerequisite: Teacher Recommendation
This course will be a survey of art history, and will engage students at the same level as an introductory college art history course. This course will involve critical thinking and an understanding and knowledge of diverse historical and cultural contexts of architecture, sculpture, painting, and other media. In this course, students will examine and critically analyze major forms of artistic expression from the past and the present from a variety of cultures. Students are required to take the AP Exam at their expense.

Prerequisite: Art I, Art II, & Teacher Recommendation
Students will be required to learn to seek out creative problems that are interesting and challenging, and to use goal setting, informed decision making, and problem-solving skills to pursue their own artistic interests in an informed capacity. Students will be responsible for demonstrating mastery at using the elements of art to organize the principles of design in their work. Students will work toward developing a comprehensive AP portfolio that reflects the following three components: Quality, Concentration, and Breadth. Students are required to take the AP Exam at their expense.

Prerequisite: Prior knowledge of basic music reading skills & Teacher Recommendation
This course will provide students with an in-depth study of the written and aural theories of music, including learning musical language and grammar with an emphasis on note-reading and harmonic analysis, extensive work on music listening, error detection and dictation skills, developing sight-reading strategies and ability level, recognizing the development of music through history and culture, and how modern music is influenced by the past. Students are required to take the AP Exam at their expense.

Prerequisite: ACT Reading Score of 20 or higher.
Music majors may not use this course to fulfill either General Studies, University Studies, or music history requirements. This course is a study of the elements of music as they apply to the listening experience. It is designed for the non-music major with no prior knowledge of music. Emphasis will be placed on developing an awareness and understanding of musical styles from the Renaissance to the present. The student will receive three (3.0) college credit hours upon passing this course. This course is listed as MUS-100 at Henderson Community College. This course will be taught on the campus of Henderson Community College (HCC). Students are required to purchase a textbook and pay tuition to HCC.
